The Steege home. Cobden

Shade beds are traditionally looked on as a tough problem, but 6-inch "limestone cake" steps are combined with carefully mixed Hosta plantings to create a cool, inviting approach to the front door. Meanwhile on the sunny side of the driveway, bright perenials attract the eye with explosive colours and shapes.

Steege. Heavy shade area under soft Maple becomes shade entrance to house Three types of hostas selected for their inter-harmony bring interest to shady spaces
